How many women over 40 are hoping to become mothers?

Last year, we published this “Thanksgiving Wish” blog with messages of gratitude from moms over 40, and hope for women over 40 hoping to be mothers. It was so gratefully received by our readers, that we’ve chosen to publish it again this year. We’ve yet to discover a method for counting wishes, but what we can do is remind you that miracles can, and do, happen.

What are you grateful for? This Thanksgiving, consider the law of attraction: how you can manifest your deepest wish by being grateful for what you already have.

Make Your Thanksgiving Wish!

At the end of this blog, post a comment on what you’re most grateful for, and then make your Thanksgiving Wish at the Wishing Bowl (http://wishbowl NULL.org/about/about-wish-bowl NULL.html)!

What Are They Grateful For?

Owners of some of the top over-40 mom websites share the secrets of their Thanksgiving gratitude for having babies after 40 with AChildAfter40.com readers:

Carsten, aged 25, Lauren, aged 13, Jan, aged 53 and Anneliese, aged 26. (Not pictured: Jan’s eldest son Kristian, who passed away in 2002, aged 20)

“As an older mother, I am grateful for being far more in tune with my daughter’s needs than I was with my other three children as a younger mother. I have more time, wisdom and patience and am in a much better position to educate my daughter.

Having grown up in an era where children were taught to value the simple pleasures in life and weren’t exposed to the diverse technology of today, I feet better able to instill these same appreciative values into my daughter.” http://www.mothersover40.com (http://www NULL.mothersover40 NULL.com/)

Fertile Kitchen® (http://www NULL.fertilekitchen NULL.com)

“I am utterly grateful for the amazing, profound experience of being an older mom. I am grateful for the two beautiful children we fought so hard to have; they bring us rewards way beyond measure. And I’m grateful I get to share this journey with a kind, compassionate and all around gorgeous human being: my husband.” www.fertilekitchen.com (http://www NULL.fertilekitchen NULL.com/)

“I’m thankful I finally realized how much I wanted a child. And I’m grateful to modern science for helping me have one. (And I wound up with a pretty good one at that!)” www.thedancingegg.wordpress.com (http://www NULL.thedancingegg NULL.wordpress NULL.com/)

Jennifer Hull, Age 55, daughters are 12 and 14 years old.

MidAge Mom  (http://jenniferhull NULL.com/MidAgeMom/)

“I’m 55—an age when people often start experiencing some challenges and losses. This year has been a bumpy one.

So I’m especially grateful for the balance that being in that hurley-burley, raising-a-family stage of life brings. The sound of my kids laughter, my husband telling us dumb jokes at the dinner table, our 7.5 pound dog burrowing under the bedcovers—these are my greatest blessings.

As a midlife mom, you realize that the small things in life are the big things.” http://jenniferhull.com/MidAgeMom/ (http://jenniferhull NULL.com/MidAgeMom/)

Carolyn Schweitzer, Age 53, son Adam 6 years old.

Mommy In The Middle (http://www NULL.mommyinthemiddle NULL.com)

“Adam is my little gift from God, unexpected and full of wonderful surprises. For me, “after 40″ was the best possible place for motherhood to begin. I’m mature, settled, and have TIME to spend with him, and for that I am ever so grateful!” http://www.mommyinthemiddle.com (http://www NULL.mommyinthemiddle NULL.com).

Angel LaLiberte, Age 51,

with son Leo 10, and daughter Isabella, 7 years old.

A Child After 40

“Having given birth after 40, I am grateful for the bond of unconditional love I feel for my children. There is no other connection like it. On top of the peak of my greatest highs, in the depths of my deepest lows, or amidst the unremarkable moments of an average day, it remains constant. I’m also grateful for the simple humor they bring to my life—it keeps me young.”  http://www.achildafter40.c0m

I am so thankful that, having has cancer twice, and losing two of my babies, that We are privileged and I am blessed with the sweetest 6 3/4 old adopted from Vietnam I have ever seen! My friends have adopted too–but my little girl is by far the most loving sweetie you will ever find! She has made the three of us into a family, and her giggles and laughter make our home filled with wonderful sounds! I love being a mom, or as my daughter writes “momom”.

  5. Sarah says:

I’m grateful to have survived the convergence of menopause and puberty with my now Darling Daughter….. (something you don’t think about when you’re in full-throttle infertility) OMG … a nightmare combo, like a WMD.

  6. Wow, Sarah! I couldn’t agree with you more! I think its time for an expert blog on dealing with menopause and teenage hormones.
I’m grateful that me, my husband, and children are well and healthy, that we are safe and warm.
My message to all women over 40 who are TTC, or adopt, is that the divide between us isn’t as great as you may feel. Fear is your greatest challenge. The simplest, yet most powerful, way to manifest your dreams is to believe in them and act accordingly.

  14. Susan says:

Hello ladies…. This is the most empowering blog that I have come across in a long while and especially so because am in the same path as many other women of my age with the desire to have healthy beautiful babies in my 40s. Am 39yrs old and although am 9months away to turn 40yrs all I think about is my biological clock and the demeaning comments that women of my age have to hear all day long for not having been married or had kids at this age. A lot of women do have kids later because they concentrate on their careers and that is important too and although I do have my Bachelors and MBA, my career has had its challenges in this economy BUT I would not say that I didn’t get kids earlier because I was in deep with my career, no. I just never met anyone that I wanted to get married to least of all have children. I have prayed for the right man to come across and am faithfully waiting. I would love to have the traditional family where mum and dad are together married and with kids. I grew up in a home with both parents and it was great. Am not saying choosing to have a child by oneself is a bad thing, no it’s actually an admirable act and I respect women who choose that journey alone. There is also the journey that begins with a man in the circle and he leaves you pregnant so either way I salute all single moms. I joined this blog because we as women get to be open and share the great achievements of being moms or aspiring moms and this blog does not bash the ideals older moms have set for themselves. Having joined this blog I have Faith and Believe that the next time I add on to the wonderful conversations I will be writing to celebrate the birth of healthy children as I will be over 40 then. So my wish is to bear healthy children in the near future with the support of a God fearing, understanding, loving and committed husband. I applaud all you wonderful women and as Prince would sing, ” You all are the reason God made a Girl”… May your bundles of joy grow to be happy successful kids and adults and to those aspiring to be mothers like myself, our wishes will come true.. Amen!

  15. Susan says:

Hello… It’s me again… I forgot to give my thanks.. I want to thank God and everyone that has stood by me through my 39yrs especially my mum Ruth.. for the gift of life and being healthy. I thank God for allowing me to be part of this world and as I await on his blessings in my next chapter in life to be a mom with healthy children. To all you wonderful mothers and all your great advise to women aspiring to have kids over 40yrs…THANK YOU!

  16. Andrea says:

I am grateful for hope and my continuing youth even as I mature in my 40’s. I believe I will have not just a baby but babies because God said he is able to do exceedingly and abundantly above all that we ask or think!

  17. Diana says:

I am thankful for God bringing me through the many trials of my past and giving me a wonderful husband. I am looking forward to adoption and a family.

  18. Tracy says:

  19. JAMELIA HIRSH says:
