(http://www NULL.achildafter40 NULL.com/fpms-greatest-hits-motherhood-40/rca_45/)Constant speculation about the role egg donation might have played in Kelly Preston’s pregnancy gives new life to the old chestnut: Do real moms use donor eggs?

It’s also given birth to an idea. I’ll be re-launching a special selection of Flower Power Mom’s blog article playlist from earlier this year, dealing with some of these controversial issues and more.

Fear not—there’ll be no “As Seen On TV”, nor will I be wheeling out the geriatric musicians at 2.00am (http://www NULL.youtube NULL.com/watch?v=qKRhMTvXbLY&feature=related) to re-sell you the fountain of youth in a CD box set.

In addition to uploading 2 new blog articles each week, I’m going to post 2 of FPM’s Greatest Hits—important blogs in mothballs crying out to be seen again in the light of day.

Why? Because everyone still wants to know if real moms use donor eggs and maybe I have some answers on that question and a bunch of others about motherhood after 40.

Since launching Flower Power Mom (FPM) (http://www NULL.achildafter40 NULL.com) a year ago, I’ve written some revealing stories about real moms over 40 who did use donor eggs, along with the grass roots opinions of some who work in the field.

FPM has also covered the stories of women who were successfully treated with IVF over 40, 50, 60 or even 70 years of age.

FPM has interviewed experts and real moms over 40 who, after repeated miscarriages, turned to the controversial treatments involved in reproductive immunology.

FPM has shared the experiences of real moms over 40 who’ve struggled through years of red tape to adopt children in Korea, China, or Vietnam.

Then there are the growing number of women who had their first families in their twenties, only to join the “second husbands’ club” and start a fresh batch in their 40’s—FPM has talked to them too.

FPM has spoken to doctors and alternative health practitioners about fertility, perimenopause, menopause, breastfeeding, aging, weight gain, and exhaustion—from the perspective of women and new mothers over 40.

FPM interviewed a virtual panorama of childbirth professionals over 12 months—including doulas, midwives, and child birth educators who themselves have given birth after 40—not to mention a belly dancing instructor, who had a home water birth at 46.

FPM has raised the issue of our cultural double standards for women (who bear) versus men over 40 who sire offspring. (As lovably snap-happy as those suspenders might be, Larry King really did pose serious health risks to his children by using his own sperm for conception in his late 60’s).

From a social stance, FPM has looked at cultural prejudice and ageism in the media and public consciousness. It was the first to launch a national Mother’s Day awareness campaign in 2010–Celebrating Motherhood After 40 (http://www NULL.achildafter40 NULL.com/celebrating-motherhood-after-40/#older)–to help dispel negative stereotypes about midlife motherhood.

FPM has featured over-40 mom bloggers and what motivates them to reach out on the blogosphere , along with others who’ve started support groups just for midlife moms– and those harassed by under-35 mommy cliques.

FPM spoke to the grown up child of over-40 parents who said her childhood “sucked!” and another who said she was lucky to have a “dedicated mom.”

FPM has interviewed and partnered with other website founders and professionals involved in motherhood after 40—including the UK site Mothers Over 40 (http://www NULL.mothersover40 NULL.com/), who pioneered the movement back in 2001—to provide the broadest base of knowledge and support to its readers.

FPM has covered all this and more, after launching one year ago—a seemingly long-ago era, when readers were few and interview pickings were slim.

Like the old Virginia Slims (http://en NULL.wikipedia NULL.org/wiki/Virginia_Slims) ads used to read: “You’ve come a long way, baby!”

To new FPM readers and those who’ve been there since the beginning, join me in stories old and new about motherhood after 40.
